Psychiatric assessment should be undertaken, but not necessarily by the psychiatrist, to assess future danger.
Suicidal risk may be estimated by considering the following points:
- current suicidal intent
- nature of the act
- risk factors for completed suicide
Any psychiatric disorders should by managed appropriately.
