Clinical history in liver disease
Often liver disease is asymptomatic until it is advanced.
Acute hepatitis may cause:
- anorexia
- nausea and vomiting
- intolerance of food, alcohol and cigarette smoke
- skin itch
- right upper quadrant pain
Once jaundice appears, other symptoms may regress.
As the liver fails the patient may notice:
- peripheral swelling
- abdominal bloating
- bruising
- vomiting of blood
- confusion and somnolence
