Laparoscope
Laparoscopy is a method of direct visualization, investigation and treatment of the abdominal organs. Generally, a fibreoptic system is inserted through a small hole in the abdominal wall. It may be performed under general or local anaesthesia.
It is a useful procedure for indications such as:
- abdominal pain of unknown origin
- hepatobiliary disease
- appendicitis
- peptic ulceration
- bowel resection
- herniorrhaphy
- hysterectomy
