Arachis oil

Arachis oil is (now very rarely) used as a laxative with a lubricant action. It is also used in the rectal administration of paralydehyde.

Side-effects can include anal seepage, lipoid pneumonia, and malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Note - while highly refined arachis oil has had allergenic proteins removed and is generally considered low-risk, official health guidelines in the UK advise people with a known peanut allergy to avoid medicines and topical creams containing it. (1)
