Increased bilirubin load
Causes of an increased bilirubin load include:
- increased volume of red cells:
- twin-twin transfusion
- maternal-foetal transfusion
- small for dates
- delayed cord clamping
- reduced red cell survival - haemolysis
- extravascular blood - bruising, cephalhaematoma
