Aetiology
Tetany may be caused by:
- hypocalcaemia
- hypomagnesaenia
- hyperventilation
- alkalotic hypokalaemia
- rapid correction of chronic acidosis (treated with calcium, as for alkalosis)
- tetanus
- electric shock
