Prevalence
- usually benign tumors. 10% are malignant
- a rare tumour among children
- equally distributed between males and females and different ethnic origins
- prevalent in less than 0.2% of patients with hypertension
- predominantly sporadic in occurrence (90%)
- 10% are associated with familial disorders like
- MEN IIa or IIb syndrome
- Von Recklinghausen disease (neurofibromatosis)
- Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome
- not a feature in MEN 1 syndrome
