Goitrous hypothyroidism signifies decreased thyroid hormone synthesis.
Causes include:
- Hashimoto's thyroiditis
- drug-induced - anti-thyroid drugs, lithium, iodine excess
- iodine deficiency - simple, endemic goitre
- de Quervain's thyroiditis - usually transient
- silent thyroiditis - usually transient; may be permanent
- congenital causes
- infiltrative disease:
- sarcoidosis
- amyloidosis
