Muscles
The muscles of the dermis can be divided into:
- smooth muscle:
- blood vessels; important role in thermoregulation
- express sebum from sebaceous glands
- dartos muscle; specialised example used in elevation of scrotal contents
- arrector pili muscles involved in piloerection; attached from undersurface of epidermis to connective tissue sheath of hair follicle
- striated muscle: few examples e.g. platysma
