Digoxin therapy
Digoxin is used in acute heart failure for two main reasons:
- to slow the ventricular response in uncontrolled atrial fibrillation
- as a second line treatment in eurhythmic patients who fail to respond
Intravenous digoxin ensures a rapid onset of action:
- 250 mcg in 50 ml of 5% dextrose given over 30 min
