Coarctation of the aorta:
- occurs twice as often in males
- associated with Turner's syndrome
- associated with maternal diabetes during pregnancy
- associated with aortic valve anomalies - 70% associated with a bicuspid aortic valve - and ventricular septal defect. Complex cardiac conditions such as single ventricle and tricuspid atresia are also associated with coarctation.
