Women negative for VZV IgG before pregnancy or in the post partum period should be considered for varicella vaccination

  • immunity from the vaccine may last up to 20 years
  • vaccinated women should be advised to avoid getting pregnant for 3 months after the last dose and if a post vaccination rash develops to avoid contact with other pregnant women (1)
