Pancreatic elastase

Pancreatic elastase is an enzyme secreted by the acinar cells of the pancreas. It is an endopeptidase that cleaves the polypeptide chains within elastin into shorter peptide chains, tri- and dipeptides.

It must be distinguished from neutrophil elastase.
