Sirenomelia is a congenital defect, probably vascular in origin, the major feature of which is the development of a single lower limb and a variety of associated defects.

Note that in the past it has been felt to be part of a spectrum including the caudal regression sequence and sacral agenesis; this is now felt not to be the case.
