Between 10 and 40%, and in some series up to 70%, of patients develop coronary artery aneurysm or stenosis.
The prognosis depends on the diameter of the aneurysms; those less than 4 mm normally regress completely while larger ones tend to leave permanent sequelae. There are permanent sequelae in 5 to 10% of patients, including thrombosis, stenosis or rupture of the coronary arteries.
Myocarditis or myocardial infarction are the main causes of death.
