Howship-Romberg sign

The Howship-Romberg sign is a test used to confirm the diagnosis of obturator hernia. A positive result occurs when pain extends down the medial aspect of the thigh with abduction, extension, or internal rotation of the knee.

The sign is positive in about 50% of patients with the hernia.
