Fanconi syndrome

Fanconi syndrome refers to a generalised disturbance of renal tubular transport whether inherited or acquired. It may occur at any age is characterised by:

  • aminoaciduria
  • glycosuria
  • phosphaturia
  • renal tubular acidosis type 2 (proximal)
  • rickets (children) or osteomalacia (adults)

Fanconi syndrome should not be confused with Fanconi anaemia.
