Acute ischaemia of the gut is characterised by:

  • severe abdominal pain
  • vomiting
  • possibly, passage of blood per rectum
  • sign of peritonitis and obstruction

The patient deteriorates rapidly.

Diagnosis is confirmed at laparotomy.
