Calcified liver lesions

Calcium-dense lesions in the liver may be seen on abdominal radiography.

The differential diagnosis includes:

  • calcified metastatic tumours:
    • colloid colorectal carcinoma
    • renal adenocarcinoma
    • osteosarcoma
    • chondrosarcoma

  • cysts:
    • particularly parasitic e.g. hydatid disease
    • not developmental cysts

  • haematoma:
    • post-liver biopsy

  • abscesses and granulomata
    • histoplasmosis
