Fracture (tarsometatarsal)

These injuries may be caused when the foot is twisted or forced into equinus. The injuries vary from a relatively benign ligamentous strain to more serious lesions such as a fracture-dislocation of the tarsometatarsal joint.

If there is a crushing injury then there may be soft tissue damage in addition to musculoskeletal damage. If there is bleeding into the fascial compartments then this may cause ischaemia of the foot.
